FACTS ABOUT WEATHER...
Myths, Folklore, and Legends about WEATHER:
People have been forecasting the weather for centuries. They once looked to plants and animals for hints about what the weather would do. For example, before it rained, some people often observed that ants moved to higher ground, cows lay down, pine cones opened up, frogs croaked, etc. Over the years, people began to notice other natural clues to upcoming weather, and several weather "sayings" grew up over the years.
The trouble with weather folklore and proverbs is not so much that they're all wrong, but that they're not all right for all times in all places. What may be true in a tropical area, may not hold true in a cold climate. Anybody who has ever looked at a collection of these sayings must have been impressed by their variety.
However, we can be sure that most of the folklore which is not based upon any real scientific evidence or facts is UNDEPENDABLE. The LESS science that is involved -- the more likely the proverb or myth is not correct. The claims that are based upon abstract analysis of religious doctrines and non-scientific dogma are some of the most undependable and un-founded. Because we now have modern high-tech ways of tracking, measuring, and assessing the weather, the predictions based upon science are much more valid.
Under certain circumstances, some proverbs and myths about weather do hold up to science. The short-range weather predictions based upon observations of animals & plants may hold true...to the degree that animals and plants express or react to Nature's activities.
FOR EXAMPLE:
* The higher the clouds, the better the weather.
(It is a scientific fact that clouds make certain formations which indicate impending weather patterns).* Closed flowers-- indicate coming showers. (Some flowers close up as the humidity rises so rain doesn't wash away their pollen. The leaves of some trees curl just before a storm).
* Frogs, birds, and other wild animals may flee when there is a dangerous storm or earthquake coming.
* Hurricanes, tornadoes, and storms do act to help cool the planet....and clean up the pollution, toxins and other greenhouse gases that accumulate. Storms help maintain an eco-balance. The more the temperature goes up...or the more there is to clean up...the bigger the storm will be.
GLOBAL WARMING AND CLIMATE CHANGE are effecting us all...
THE FOLLOWING myths & folklore are just *unproven tales* --
* Bad storms --e.g.-- hurricanes, tornadoes, cyclones, blizzards, etc.-- are sent by God to punish people for committing such sins as “homosexuality.”
* Bad weather comes because a lot of people don't attend church.
* Only “the gods” control what type of weather we have -- there is no science to it.
* The Earth is just a big rock that floats in space…and does not have any influence on the type of weather we get.
* The big hurricanes that hit the Gulf Coast were sent by God because
the War in Iraq was wrong and the storms are punishment for it.* The first frost in autumn will be exactly six months after the first thunderstorm of spring.
* WEATHER is just a random event that happens now and then --there is no pattern to it at all.
* Pollution and smog from burning gas in our cars has nothing to do with creating bad weather.
* Scientists have no evidence or proof that pollution effects the weather or is causing GLOBAL WARMING.
* If enough people pray against a storm coming THEN.....
…God will intervene and stop the storm.
