Poverty kills one child every three seconds

It is estimated that one billion people in the world suffer from hunger and malnutrition. About 24,000 people die every day from hunger or hunger-related causes. Three-fourths of the deaths are children under the age of five.

Sudanese refugee children live on half a cup of cornmeal per day, sometimes less. It seems incredible that 204,000 children die from hunger, AIDS, and other preventable causes every week. However, the future doesn't have to be this bleak for children - we can make a difference.

Amnesty Int'L: One in three women abused

Amnesty has launched a drive to end violence against women

From battlefields to backstreets and bedrooms, women across
the world are being subjected to terrifying levels of abuse,
according to human rights pressure group
Amnesty International.

Amnesty reported on Friday that up to one billion
women-one in three --had been beaten, forced to have sex
or otherwise abused, often by a friend or family member.
