What do people really think about MLM deals, home-based recruiting schemes, and/or Internet business opportunities?

RESULTS FROM A SURVEY --

REGARDING HOME-BASED (Internet) or

MLM BUSINESSES ---

** These are actual responses from various people:--

* HERE IS A RULE OF THUMB....when someone shows you their "home-based biz deal or MLM plan" --ask yourself ---  "Is this a product that would sell well no matter what I get paid?"   "Are there some good benefits in this service for customers?"  If the answer is 'yes' -- then find out how much they are charging to sign up.  If it is "affordable and fair" -- that is...less than $100 to get involved...and they are offering good commissions -- it is probably a good deal.  If there is a bunch of HYPE over products that are mediocre -- and maybe sold in regular retail stores-- and they want a big fee to get involved, and the main (hot) part of the compensation plan is that you must find other people to pay this high fee--RUN !!!

* I have been approached by people who tried to sign me up in their MLM deal.  Of course, I want to earn some extra money without working another job.   But I did not join because they were “high pressure”-- PUSHY -- and had very little to offer me --other than the chance for me to sell their products.  One man bugged me every week for a long time -- but his over-priced deal was not good.  I have seen similar products in OFFICE DEPOT and K-MART.  All I saw was some imitation over-priced products that he wanted me to hussle. He got so frustrated that he started INSULTING ME -- insinuated that I was "a loser" ...and that is when I told him to buzz off.  I believe that if you have a GOOD PRODUCT, you won’t have to pressure anyone to buy it….maybe just show them the benefits. And we must remember that not everyone is attracted to what you like.

* My RULE for these "business opportunities"  is that I never pay any high fees or invest a lot of money just to become a salesperson for somebody's products or services.   I can understand paying $100 or so to get a sales kit, website and company registration.  BUT if  I cannot earn lots of money from the sales...forget all the fancy "multi-levels" and the hype talk about "sales techniques" and all that crap.  IF IT SELLS...standing on its own...then you know your downline or sales reps will also make money.  If I cannot simply exhibit, promote and show the-- (catalog, brochures) products (or services) to people and make a few good sales every month....then it is just a waste of my time and energy-- and if they are trying to get a big "sign up fee" or investment out of me to do it -- it is probably a SCAM.

ONE OF THE WORST THINGS THAT THESE MLM deal promoters do is -- they try to put people on "guilt trips" --  if they don't sign up.   Sometimes people are just not interested.  Or maybe that deal  is not so "hot" --(products or services are mediocre).  BUT these MLM promoters will say things like...."Oh, you are just negative."  -- or--- "Why don't you want to be rich?"--- or   -- "You can't be successful with an attitude like yours..."-- and some get more insulting than that.   Sometimes people have other interests -- but these pushy MLM people don't want to hear that.   Or if you are already doing another BUSINESS...they will slam and knock that business....and try to convince you that theirs is better.  And more often than not...if they have to pressure you and work hard to convince you....then the MLM deal  is not for you.  You need more than a POSITIVE ATTITUDE to make money or get rich.  You also need a good, valuable product or service-- and good marketing plan.

* There are many good “home-based business opportunities” that do not charge a lot of money….some for less than $100 - $200 to get started. I highly recommend to my friends that they NOT spend much more than that to get into one of these types of business deals.  I know from experience that people will join in your DOWNLINE and then drop out in a few months.  That is a big problem...the downline may not be something to depend on all the time.  If it flops…well you did not lose your life’s savings on hype and promises.  Plus,  it is really ILLEGAL for MLM companies to charge a lot for people to join or to ask Reps to buy and stock up on a lot of products.

* I tell people to WATCH OUT for -- BE VERY LEARY OF putting big money into any of these types of hyped up --" HOT, NEW -- pie-n-the-sky - MLM deals ...that are “ground floor”  -- and just got started in someone’s garage....or dinky office.  If that company does not have  (1) a SUPER GOOD PRODUCT OR SERVICE and (2) other sources of good funding --- and they want you to help fund their project by paying $3,000 or $5,000 --to be a V.I.P.-- or a "founder" or any other fancy position --- be very suspect.  These deals are risky business. Most of these types of deals go under within 2 years or so…unless the product or service they offer is really fantastic and there is some past history of it being marketable.

* I joined an MLM one time and the woman who sponsored me constantly pressured me to BUY LOTS OF PRODUCTS...and to "get into the FAST START PLAN" ...which cost $1500... and on top of that buy $200 worth per mo. (she insisted) --- I did not know that many people who would buy all those products, even if I could afford that much.  In fact, she became more and more pushy, bossy, selfish, and rude over the months. If I did not sell something, she became enraged and threw fits…yelled at people in her downline.  It was an awful experience.  I was looking to be my own boss…not work under another clown. I don’t need any of this mess in my life.

*  One of the biggest mistakes that people make in trying to operate a small business is that they fail to offer something unique or at a big discount...or something very valuable to consumers.  They want to sell what everyone else seems to be selling.  BIG MISTAKE for a small business.  If  you want to sell "mouse traps" ...bow-ties, pots, dog food... or "ink cartridges" -- yours must be cheaper or much better than what is in the stores -- or you will meet with great difficulty trying to sell them.  Do not join an MLM or Internet business-- or try to do MAIL ORDER...  offering mediocre, commonly sold products & services.  In any small or home-based business, you must offer a product or service that is unique or highly valuable that people cannot purchase at the local stores.  If they can buy it or something similar at WAL-MART, K-MART, OFFICE DEPOT, SAM'S CLUB  (etc.)-- you will be climbing a greasy pole trying to attract customers.

* BEWARE OF BECOMING AN MLM JUNKIE....Just as a monkey roaming through the forest grabs hold of one branch, lets that go and grabs another, then lets go and grabs still another-- SOME PEOPLE JUMP FROM DEAL TO DEAL....THEY GET HOOKED ON THE HYPE of "possibly getting rich quick and easy" --much like a sick gambler.  They waste tons of money going from one losing deal to another scam MLM to another hyped up opportunity.  One reason that this happens is that they get sucked into scams.  TWO SURE SIGNS OF SCAMS....(1) They charge a lot of fees.  (2) They have complicated "compensation plans" which result in the owners and top people getting most of the money.

* BE LEARY OF DEALS that use a lot of "hype" at fancy meetings....and make fantastic, incredible, pie-in-the-sky claims and promises--such as:  "...take this holy pill, go to sleep and lose  lots of weight overnight" -- or of ..."getting rich quick without much work"-- or -- "hot new nano-tech products that work magic..." or -- "invest your money and then fill up the matrix by recruiting other investors" -- or excessive references to..." how God or religion will make the deal successful..."   BEFORE YOU PAY HIGH FEES TO JOIN ...CHECK IT OUT.  Ask your friends if it makes sense...would they buy? Are the products working for anyone?  What do experts say about it?  Do they sell?  Is there any proof or marketing results to review?  This is one good reason that we need to learn as much as we can about what constitutes a good home-based business.

* After I got burned in several different bad, shady deals,  I have learned what works best in MLM or any home-based business.  Here is what is best ---  you need a really valuable, unique product or service that sells...and resells.  You should be able to sell something and earn a big commission within a month or 2.  The commission should be good...not just a few bucks on each sale of some trinkets.  GOOD BUSINESSES ARE --   Deals in big time services, such as REAL ESTATE, TELECOMMUNICATIONS, HEALTH SERVICES, ENTERTAINMENT,  FINANCES & INVESTING, INSURANCE, and similar ventures offer big commissions.  IF IT IS MLM.... It should be very AFFORDABLE to join. Otherwise,  if it costs $500 or more -- you will have trouble signing up other people because they cannot afford it.  And you should be able to sell the product or service once and then have REPEAT sales coming in every month....or have a service for which the customers pay every month.  That will create a long term residual income.  Anything less --such as where you have to keep making a ton of sales, and the commission is low -- will be a flop.

* I did join an MLM deal and I have been making money.  It only cost me less than $100 to sign up, and for the kit and get my first shipment of product. I think the reason that this is a good opportunity is that the products are really excellent.  They are some very unique HEALTH PRODUCTS that are very affordable to customers...and people are getting results when they use them.  Once they use them, they ask for more.  I just put them on "monthly auto ship"-- and my company ships the health products directly to the customer and then sends me a commission check.  This company gave me a free website and I promote that via post-cards.  This is a winner.

* I joined an MLM and my sponsor was the problem for me.  All he did was brag about how much money he was making....how he had a big sale of $4,000 one time (and on and on).  He did not help me to find leads or to make much.  I found out several months after joining that there were videos on the Internet and DVDs available to help train the REPS.  He did not tell me much of anything that would help me.   He was always LATE TO MEETINGS...but he was bragging and then would BLAME his downline for not knowing much or selling much-- then would BRAG some more about his own achievements.   A lot of his downline got tired of his big ego...and quit...joined other deals.

* Most of these MLM deals that I have seen at meetings cost too much to join for what they were offering. One deal wanted me to pay $1,000 -- and that only gave me the privilege to buy their products and re-sell them. Another deal wanted me to pay $2500.-- just to join…that did not include products. They had people who hyped up the idea of "getting rich" and they put the pressure on to sign up right away. But they could not show me anything that proved what they were promising.  It was all a bunch of hype and SCAMS.

* The MLM deals that I have seen that are good…are the ones that have a good unique (results-getting) HEALTH PRODUCT that is affordable --- and also the DISCOUNTS & FINANCIAL SERVICES…are OK too. If you can offer a way for people to SAVE MONEY or to get much needed services at a low price, such as HEALTH CARE, LEGAL SERVICES, and discounts -- that’s a good deal. Usually these companies also offer their Reps…bonuses, leads, free websites, free vacations, and other rewards…besides the opportunity to just go out and sell or recruit.  SUCCESSFUL COMPANIES offer the Reps a lot more than the chance to sell their over-priced mediocre products.

* After I was scammed out of a lot of money a few times.... I found that there are some simple home-based businesses that do not require people to pay a lot of money...or to get out and try to recruit all their friends and family.  Some of these are on-line.  I found one where I pay a small fee and I distribute DISCOUNT COUPONS to my clients and customers.  Whenever someone redeems them,  I get paid a commission. Plus,  I use the COUPONS as rewards, prizes and incentives.  This is a very easy way to make extra money.

* I have a lot of friends who do MLM deals…and most of them are not making much money. The ones who are making money -- work all the time at calling people, finding leads and all that. One friend stands in booths to sell her products and to distribute her flyers. She had to pressure people to even look at the stuff she had. This is not attractive to me.

* One of my buddies was in and out of at least 100 of these types of deals and she went broke…never made much at all…and she spent a lot more on supplies, kits, websites, inventory,  and going to training.  She had more strange stuff in her closet than I have ever seen in my life -- inventory from these "hot deals" --which did not sell.  She kept doing it -- I guess because she really believed all that fake hype about “getting rich.” It was pitiful.

* I have observed many of these MLM people who seem obsessed with what they offer...some act very arrogant like they found GOD'S ONLY WAY TO EARN MONEY. I operate my own business...a GIFT SHOP.  I sell books, gifts, incense and things like that.  I would not mind having some more "hot selling products" in my store.  However,  I was a bit turned off with some of the MLM offers that I encountered.  A buddy would come by here almost every week offering me one MLM product or deal after the other.  She seemed very obsessed with these deals, but she was also always broke.  She jumped from one business to another to another. But I never saw her earn any big money.  And let me add...she spent very little money with me ...probably not over $10.00 in all these years -- but she got ticked when I would not sign up in her deals.

* The best MLM home-based deals are some of the ones on the Internet...that are free or very low cost to join.  They have some NETWORKING companies that give you a free website with other advertising services. And some of them let you advertise your own products or books on the website.  There are also some companies that offer wholesale prices on their products...and you can sign up for less than $75.00.   They give you a REP ID #  and access to their website and catalogs to distribute.  All of this is available for low cost.  All you do is bring in buyers.  They ship out the products to the people who ordered from you.  Now those are pretty good deals because you don't have to spend a lot to get started earning money.

* I have been ripped off a few times by MLM that were really “pyramid scams.” The first sign is that they pressure people with a lot of HYPE..."it's a once in a lifetime opportunity to get rich..." (they will say) ...and they charge a lot of money to join…PLUS they have a few flakey, ordinary, or mediocre (no big deal) products to sell.  One way or another --they want you to pay a lot of money for very little in return.  And even worse, their COMPENSATION PLAN was in Greek or Chinese -- I mean, it was very confusing or complicated.  All SIGNS of a bad deal.  AVOID THESE TYPES OF DEALS that ask for thousands of dollars just to join a "NEW DEAL"--- and become a "V.I.P'-- or a "founder" or any other fancy name that they are giving out to their "investors."  Pyramid scams are often disguised as "MLM deals" --but they are illegal.

* There are ways to earn money without paying a lot to just sign up... if you have a valuable (unique) product -- MAIL ORDER is a good business which you can start on a low budget.  There is a lot of information about MAIL ORDER and how to do it online.  EBAY is another good way to do it. And there are ways to INVEST your money so that it earns a lot of interest.  There are some opportunities in the area of MONEY MANAGEMENT and FINANCIAL SERVICES....where you earn interest on your money and get a commission for referring new people into the program.  Your investment of time and money in any business or MLM should benefit you -- not cause you headaches, pain, loss, and problems. Whatever deal you are considering, make sure it is not going to take a ton of money out of your pocket.

...CONTENTS OF A GOOD BUSINESS PLAN---

The content is more important than the length.

Your Business Plan can be as short as 10 pages or as long as 300 pages, but
the essential aspect of a GOOD PLAN is that it clearly explains, covers, and
analyzes how the corporation will operate.

At the very least, a BUSINESS PLAN should explain the following:

* GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF THE OPERATIONS

* GOALS & PURPOSES OF THE BUSINESS
* MISSION STATEMENT

* LOCATION OF THE BUSINESS

* STRUCTURE OF THE BUSINESS (corporation, MLM, sole proprietor, etc.)

* ASSETS AND REAL ESTATE OWNED

* OWNERS SKILLS, BACKGROUND, TRAINING

* BUSINESS HISTORY AND PREVIOUS SUCCESSES

... INVESTORS or LENDERS...want to see is some type of "sales track record"--- or indications of market demand.

...Any testimonials from satisfied customers and users?....

CAN YOU DEMONSTRATE that you are getting any orders for your services & products
....how many? when? who orders? any pending orders? etc.

* KEY MARKETING ADVANTAGES  (what is special or unique about your venture?)

* PRODUCTS OFFERED (include pictures, graphics, maps, diagrams, etc.)

* SERVICES OFFERED (what do you offer to customers & clients?)

* OVER-HEAD EXPENSES....(office, wages, warehousing, packaging, website, utility bills, etc.)

* MARKETING PLANS...(marketing research, survey results, previous sales rates....etc.)

* ADVERTISING TECHNIQUES-- (how will you promote your venture?)

* PROFIT PRODUCING ASPECTS OF THE BUSINESS  (what earns money?)

* PROPOSAL for using new investments, loans or grants.

* OTHER IMPORTANT INFO...such as: accounting,website, attorney, staff set-up,
employees' wages,patents, deeds, copyrights, manager's resumes,
history of success, expert's opinions, etc.

  Generally,  investors, bankers and venture capitalists

want a thorough report on finances and projections

to be done by a licensed accountant...and the report

should include---  * OPERATIONAL COSTS (equipment, supplies, delivery, furniture, etc.)

* ANALYSIS OF EXPENSES, COSTS, PROFITS, etc.

* INCOME PROJECTIONS (monthly, yearly, etc.)

PLUS...You will need to clearly explain and demonstrate how your business managers
will manage the loan or the money invested,show a solid MARKETING PLAN, how and when
you project to be able to pay it back, and some forms of---
ASSETS, COLLATERAL, INSURANCES, CO-SIGNERS,
or GUARANTORS.

The Business Plan must give a good over-view, summary and analysis of how it will sell its
products, markets services, and make money.
